I was bought this at christmas. It's a great little thing, plenty bright enough for my purposes (walking dog in the dark)and seems to give plenty of light from not a lot of winding. It has 3 modes...dim, bright, and flashing. I suppose the flashing one is a bit like some people have on their bikes but is a bit annoying if you just want light (so don't select it!). The only real negative is that it's a bluish kind of cold light...but that's true of all LEDs so you just have to accept it. Well worth the small cost.
Good product August 23, 2010 Steff (United Kingdom) Well constructed and sturdy item.
Winding arm feels strong, should last a long time and is plenty bright enough.
Overall i am very happy with this item, much better than the other two i already had.
Draper 45943 LED waterproof wind up torch August 1, 2010 J. morris (england) Used by a handicapped child whilst on a weeks school holiday. Was easy for him to use and met all his needs, also made him poplar with the others as no-one else had bought spare battteries for their torches.Brilliant
Reasonable light, waterproof torch, no batteries needed! April 20, 2010 R. F. Stevens (Ickenham UK) A simple little waterproof torch, with up to three LEDs (as required) giving a blue-white light. The batteries are built-in rechargeable by winding it up on the fold-away handle.
It will shine at maximum brightness for about forty times longer than the winding period, up to at least two hours, but by when it is noticeably dimmer. The claimed intensity is 50,000mcd, which is not really all that bright for a torch, but when you are changing a tyre in the dark, in the rain, it is a godsend, and you can be confident that you will always have enough light to see what you are doing. I used the handle to conveniently prop it up to aim the light at the wheel nuts.
It has two other modes; one LED on, and three LEDs flashing. The winder is quite stiff, and a minute feels like a long time, but there is the re-assurance that the work is not being wasted.
I bought it as a car-specific replacement for when my other (case damaged by dropping!) 3 LED Wind-Up Torch should cease to work. This waterproof 3 LED torch is not quite as bright, even when in three LED mode, but being now proven waterproof in rain and accidentally kicked into a puddle, it is still definitely a good buy.
Also worth considering is the wind-up and USB charge 5 LED Dynamo Torch which is significantly brighter than either of these other two.

Great piece of technology! Delighted with the fact that I can have light without the batteries.
